How to Write an Economics Test

Rate: (0 Ratings)

A basic economics test should cover all of the major points of both microeconomics and macroeconomics. These major sections must be divided into smaller sub-sections. A good economics test also should include at least one essay question and a section of short answer questions so that the test taker's grasp on economics can be adequately assessed.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Multiple choice questions and answers
  • Essay questions and answers
  • Short answer questions and answers

Step1
Prepare the multiple-choice section. Make these generalized questions like, "What is the role of the Federal Reserve Bank?" and "What is the proper definition of a recession, depression or economic downturn?" Include questions regarding common economic definitions such as capital wealth, labor, inflation and deflation.
Step2
Write the short answer section. In this section, be more detailed in your questions. For example "Explain why inflation occurs," "Give an example of market elasticity" or "Explain Capitalism, Socialism or Marxism."
Step3
Compose the essay question(s). Consider questions like "How do interest rate increases affect the economy?" or "Explain how Leading Economic Indicators help to determine the health of the economy."
Step4
Determine the scoring weight of each section. Short answer and essay questions should hold more weight than multiple-choice questions. Short answers and essay questions are a better measure of the student's comprehension of economics.

Tips & Warnings

  • Write questions with definitive answers. Certain aspects of the economy are vague, making it difficult to come up with a question that has a right or wrong answer.
  • Keep your questions and answers relatively short in the multiple choice section.
  • Avoid highly debated economic theories. There is no right or wrong answer to some economic theories, which is why they are highly debated.
