How to Make a 3-D Homer Simpson Doughnut Trophy

The Simpsons is the longest-running animated show on American TV. Any Simpsons fan knows how important the doughnut is to Homer. This 3-D Simpsons trophy is a jelly donut that looks like the doughnut from The Simpsons' Movie title. Make it as a joke or as a gift for the Simpsons fan in your life.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

• 2 lightweight, plastic grocery bags
• Masking tape
• Hot glue and hot glue gun
• Bright pink spray paint
• Sugar sprinkles
• Box cutter
• Blue and light brown acrylic paint
• 2 small screws
• 1-by-4 board cut 6 inches long
• Black paint
• Jigsaw
• 1 Popsicle stick or dowel rod
• Small metal trophy plate
• 2 small screws

Make the Doughnut

1. Twist a plastic bag tightly and form it into a circle shape. Cover the bag with the masking tape. Wrap the tape around the bag to hold the doughnut shape in place.
2. Wind the other plastic bag up and wrap it around the outside of the taped doughnut shape. Cover it with masking tape.
3. Melt hot glue over the top of the doughnut to create the look of icing. Let it drip down the sides and through the hole. Turn the doughnut around and upside down to control path of the glue. Work quickly because it doesn't take long for the hot glue to dry.
4. Spray paint the icing hot pink. It is ok if you get some paint on the doughnut. You paint that part later.
5. Spread the sprinkles on the top of the doughnut while the paint is still wet. The wet paint holds the sprinkles in place.
6. Cut a bite mark out of the side of the donut with a box cutter. Be careful not to cut though to the hole. Trim the sides to perfect Homer Simpson's bite mark.
7. Seal the cut-out piece with the hot glue. Drop a pear-shaped drop of glue onto the inside of the doughnut to look like the jelly center.
8. Paint the filling and the doughnut. Paint the inside of the bite mark blue to create the blueberry filling. Leave a small ring around the edge unpainted for the cake part of the doughnut.

Make the Doughnut Trophy Stand

9. Paint the top and sides of the 1-by-4 black.
10. Place the Popsicle stick or dowel rod on the center of the board. Trace around the outside of the stick. Cut a notch out of the top of the wood to match the size of the rod or stick. Make the hole 1/2 inch deep.
11. Drip glue into the hole. Slide the dowel or stick into the hole. Allow the glue to dry.
12. Attach the trophy face to the front of the board with the two small screws.
13. Decide how tall you want the trophy to be. Trim the dowel to fit the size.
14. Cut a small hole in the side of the doughnut to fit the rod. Angle the doughnut backwards slightly.
15. Put glue in the hole and slide the doughnut into place.
