Wine bottle shelves are created by using old wine bottles and transforming them into shelves. Make this project out of recycled items. Wine bottle shelves are a way to reuse and give a new life to glass bottles and old wood. Use these shelves to hold books, memorabilia, pictures or other displayed items.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 8 used wine bottles, each identical in size
  • 6 1/2-inch hook and eye strainers or turn buckles
  • 6 1-by-12 foot boards cut 2-feet in length
  • 2 1-by-12 foot boards cut 1-inch wide
  • Drill
  • Screws
  1. Step 1

Clean the bottles with hot, soapy water. Allow them to dry.

  2. Step 2

Place a 1-by-12 foot piece of wood on a flat surface. Place two wine bottles 1 inch in on each end of the board. Separate the bottles evenly across the board. Mark where the bottles sit. Drill a centered hole between each bottle. Each bottle needs to have one hole on each side. Screw the hook into each drilled hole.

  3. Step 3

Replace the bottles on the board. Lay another 1-by-12 foot piece of wood on top of the bottles. Take a pen or marker and trace the rim of each bottle onto the wood. Remove the wood. For each bottle, drill a hole 1/2 inch larger than the diameter of the rim.

  4. Step 4

Drill small holes in between the rim holes for the hook pieces. Slide the board over the neck of the bottles. Attach the hook and eye pieces. Tighten until sturdy.

  5. Step 5

Repeat the process for the next two shelving levels.

  6. Step 6

Stack the second section on top of the first set of bottles.

  7. Step 7

Slide the 1-inch wide board in between the gap created between the boards resting on the neck of the bottles and the bottom of the second shelf. The board needs to be placed directly in the middle of the shelf. Secure two screws into the 1-inch wide board.

  8. Step 8

Repeat this process for the top shelf section.
