Hula hoops and hula hoop gear can be used for several purposes. Some people buy hula hoops for an overall fitness workout, while others purchase for enjoyment reasons. Your purpose for the hula hoop determines where you purchase the product.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Consider the age of the person who will be using the hula hoop. If it is a child, then a toy store may be the best place to get the hula hoop gear.

  2. Step 2

Go to a sports and fitness store for adult hula hoop gear. You can visit any large sporting goods retailer to see their selection of gear.

  3. Step 3

Weigh yourself. Many adult and workout hula hoops are sold by a person's weight. When you are purchasing the hula hoop, check on the tag to see if the hula hoop is suitable for your size.

  4. Step 4

Look for exercise videos that accompany the hula hoops. When buying a hula hoop, consider an instructional DVD as well. These can help you get started on learning the basics of the hula hoop.

  5. Step 5

Pick a weighted hula hoop if you are looking for hula hoop gear to work out with. Weighted models provide a better body workout.

Tips & Warnings
  • Many of the newer hula hoops designed for workouts are detachable models. This makes for easy storage.
  • Most of the hula hoops designed for children are suitable for kids up to the age of 12.

on 7/7/2009 Just a comment to save potentially happy hoopers some headache. I'd bought a weighted hoop online and was SO excited. Unfortunately, when I got it, it almost came to my chest. I kept trying but eventually got discouraged...it was just SO SLOW. After searching online for what seemed like forever, I found Your Hoop..at yourhoop.com They sell weighted hoops built to size which is awesome for those of us under 5'11". Now I'm a hooping fool!
