Pilates is one of the hottest exercise crazes of the last few years. As people are becoming more comfortable with the moves and equipment of Pilates, they are building their own home Pilates studio. The C-Shaper is a standard piece in most home studios. It is called the C-Shaper because of its horizontal "C" shape. Use these steps to learn more about the C-Shaper and how to buy one for yourself.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get familiar with the C-Shaper if you are not already. It is important to understand how the C-Shaper works before using it at home alone. It is designed to support the spine during selected Pilates moves. Use it for moves you would do on the floor, since it provides a sort of cushion. Since the spine is a fragile area of the body, it is important to protect it.

  2. Step 2

Look for a used C-Shaper. Check with your local gym or Pilates studio to see if they have any used equipment for sale. Tell them you are looking for a C-Shaper and ask for a price and possible warranty.

  3. Step 3

Visit your local sporting goods or fitness store to see if they carry the C-Shaper. Compare different companies and prices for the best buy.

  4. Step 4

Check online selling communities, like Amazon or Craigslist, to find a used one. Make sure you check it out in person first to make sure the C-Shaper is in good condition.

  5. Step 5

Shop online Pilates equipment stores and retailers, like Pilates Insight, for great deals (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings
  • As with any exercise program or fitness equipment use, consult with your doctor before trying anything new.
  • When comparison shopping with online retailers included in the mix, don't forget to add the price of shipping for an accurate price quote.
