If you rely on tap water for your daily water needs, then you may want to improve your water quality. Tap water can contain chemicals and organisms that you don't want to ingest. There are several simple procedures that you can use to purify the water that you drink.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Boil tap water vigorously for at least 10 minutes to improve and purify it. A pinch of salt further purifies the water.

  2. Step 2

Install a water filtration system on your water source. Several manufacturers make these systems.

  3. Step 3

Buy water purification tablets if you feel that you may be exposed to unsanitary water. These can be bought at drug stores and emergency supply retailers.

  4. Step 4

Run your drinking water through a filtration pitcher if you don't want to install a water filtration system. This is a cheaper method for drinking water out of a filtered receptacle.

  5. Step 5

Use fewer household chemicals when cleaning. Household cleaners can pollute an area's water supply. Use cleaners with all-natural ingredients for better quality water.

Tips & Warnings
  • Pollution is one of the main reasons for low water quality. Being environmentally conscious can improve your water quality.
  • If you are using a filtration system to improve water quality, you must regularly maintain the system. The filter needs to be changed often to work properly.
