How to Upgrade Eudora

Eudora is a powerful and versatile email program. To take advantage of its latest features, such as adding a photo to accompany your signature or to play music when new mail arrives, you have to upgrade to Eudora 7.1. Here are some guidelines to help you upgrade your version of Eudora.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer
  • Microsoft Windows 2000/XP
  • Macintosh OS X
  • POP3 or IMAP4 email account with an ISP (Internet service provider)
  • Email access via PPP dial-up network
  • Modem or TCP/IP Internet connection
  • Eudora
  • Eudora 7.1
Step1
Back up your current version of the program before you upgrade Eudora.
Step2
Visit Eudora's website (see Resources below) and download the Eudora program update (version 7.1).
Step3
Double-click the "Eudora" icon on your desktop to begin the installation/upgrade process.
Step4
Follow the on-screen prompts by clicking "Next" or "Back" if you need to repeat a step.
Step5
Accept the terms of the Software License Agreement.
Step6
Click "Next" when you see "Choose Components" and "Choose Program Folder."
Step7
Select "User's Application Data Folder" and click "Default" for the next few screens.
Step8
Respond "No" when asked if you want a program shortcut on your desktop, and reboot your computer.
Step9
Open Eudora after your computer has rebooted and verify that it is working properly.
Step10
Select "Properties" after right-clicking on the Eudora shortcut if something doesn't look right following the upgrade. Verify the "Target" and "Start In" areas are correct. If they aren't, make the necessary corrections.
Step11
Repeat step 9 and begin using your upgraded Eudora.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make a backup copy of Eudora before installing any upgrade.
