How to Block a Sender in Yahoo! IM

Using Yahoo! Messenger can be a great way to keep in touch with friends, but sometimes unwanted contacts can be a nuisance. Fortunately, Yahoo!'s chat client has features that can help prevent people chatting with you. You can put a person on your ignore list so he won't see when you're online and won't be able to get a message to you if he tries. You can also block everyone who is not on your contacts list from messaging you, which can keep random, unknown people from IMing you.

Step1

Open your Yahoo! Messenger program and sign in. Delete the Yahoo! ID of the person you would like to ignore from your contact list by right-clicking on the name and navigating to "Delete." Click "OK."

Step2

Go to the "Messenger" menu and click "Preferences." Highlight "Ignore List" under the heading "Category."

Step3

Select "Ignore Only the People Below" and click "Add."

Step4

Type the Yahoo! ID of the person you would like to ignore in the text box. Make sure "Yahoo! Messenger" is selected in the pull-down menu on the right. Click "Ignore" and then click "OK" to close the window. You will now appear offline to that person as long as he is on your ignore list.

Step5

Click on "Ignore Anyone Who Is Not in My Messenger List" in the ignore list preferences screen and hit "OK" to ignore anyone who is not in your contacts list. You will appear offline to everyone except those in your contacts list.

on 4/11/2008 That's a good idea. But unfortunately, yahoo has release their Block Checker Status on http://www.sachgup.com/yahoo/status-checker/index.php. How this thread could solve the problem? I have a bad experience this morning, i receive a hinhem.scr spyware from my Y! IM when i signed up. I have to report this to yahoo just block this id: aku_reza. I told u, This user is very, very a bad one. He's a good cheater for messenger user.

on 2/22/2008 i understand this however if someone has you block and deleted are you still able to see them online under the contacts in the mailbox and also on their profile.....or have they just logged in under invisible...i have tried to message but just don't know if they are still ignoring me or aren't getting my messages....(argument with friend)

on 2/22/2008 yes but if you do block and ignore a person and they can't see you online....what about the contact in the email or on the profile....i thinki've been blocked and deleted yet i can still see them online thru the contacts and thru their profile...so am i truly blocked and deleted or are they just signed in as invisible...
