The Federal Work Study Program is a type of collegiate funding program that can help students pay for college. The way that it works is that the students work part time and the money that is earned is applied towards their tuition. If you are interested in the program, you can apply by completing a few simple steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Find out if your college or university participates with the Federal Work Study Program. You want to check with your school's financial aid office since many private colleges don't participate in the program.
Step2
Fill out a FAFSA. The FAFSA form is used by the federal government and your college to determine your eligibility for the program.
Step3
Indicate on the FAFSA that you are interested in applying for the Federal Work Study Program. This lets your financial aid office know to calculate the program into your financial aid package.
Step4
Receive your eligibility from the government. Based on your FAFSA, the financial aid office lets you know if you qualify for Federal Work Study and how many hours that you can work.
Step5
Speak to your financial aid officer about work assignments. After you have been accepted into the program, your college assigns you an on-campus job. They have to pay you at least minimum wage and accommodate your class schedule.

Tips & Warnings

  • Although you may be awarded a Federal Work Study Program grant, it does not guarantee that you will be able to get a job. On campus positions fill up quickly and your campus may not have one available for you.
