How to Become a Miami Heat Dancer

Get in shape. Being a professional dancer in this high-energy environment requires both endurance and fitness. Rigorous routines are part of both the audition and try-out process. Get in your best shape through regular cardiovascular exercise and weight training.

Perfect your dance skills. This may be easier if you already perform as a dancer. If you aren't used to performing in front of a crowd, find an outlet that allows you do to do. If you need to really brush up on your skills, enroll in a class or hire a dance coach.

Visit the Miami Heat's home page to learn more about the team, staff and dance team. The team currently features 20 dancers who perform at home games and championships.

Prepare to attend Dance Training Camp week in Miami at American Airlines Arena. Held each summer, the camp is held each evening for a week. Required attire is a two-piece, form-fitting ensemble. Full performance make-up is required, and participants must be at least 18 years of age by the date of tryouts. Participants must bring a resume and headshot.

Attend a Pre-Audition Training Clinic for additional preparation. Held throughout the month prior to official try-outs, these sessions cost $25 per person and cover dance technique and specific genres such as hip-hop.

Attend try-outs and make the final cut to begin your reign as a dancer for the Miami Heat.

Know that tryouts are highly competitive. In addition, the commitment to be a dancer for the Miami heat requires that each dancer's schedule be open and flexible to make evening games and other appearances.
