How to Give Bathroom Cabinets a Budget Facelift

You probably spend a fair amount of time in your bathroom. That makes the peeling wallpaper, dingy floors and worn cabinets look even worse than they are. Instead of purchasing brand-new cabinets, give your bathroom cabinets a budget facelift with these steps.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Put your ideas on paper. You may think that you are planning a small facelift, but you can end up with a large bill if you're not careful. Write down everything you want to do and the supplies you need.

  2. Step 2

Clean out the cabinets. It is free and easy, but it's something people often neglect. Cabinets crammed with half-used tubes of lipstick and bath toys your teens outgrew when they were toddlers feel in much worse shape than they are.

  3. Step 3

Consider painting cabinets instead of removing them. Short of structural damage, you can paint wood cabinets and make them look much better. You spend less time and money and get a great look.

  4. Step 4

Change the hardware on the cabinets. You should be able to find matching knobs in contemporary styles for only a few dollars each. Quality cabinets that were in style in 1975 now make your bathroom look rough. Just sprucing them up with the currently trendy stainless steel knobs can give them a whole new look.

  5. Step 5

Organize those cabinets, including purchasing new rods or shelving if necessary. Many bathrooms look bad because they are cluttered and not because they are outdated. If you are always tossing the hair dryer out of the way to get to your shaving gel, spend some money from your budget on a nice rack to hang it.

  6. Step 6

Take the cabinet doors off the hinges. If you have problems opening the doors, replace the hinges. Otherwise, wipe down and paint the inside of the cabinets as well. You can achieve a sparkly look and be happier when you look inside your cabinets.

  7. Step 7

Stop by your local home improvement store to price everything on your list. Add up the prices to see if you are within budget.
