How to Use a Track Loader Safely

The track loader comes in many shapes and sizes. While in appearance, the track loader is essentially like a skid steer loader using tracks for linear movement, some who have used track loaders say that the versatile machines have much better capabilities for different kinds of projects. The track loader can be extremely useful for small earth-moving projects and can be easier to control than the classic skid-steer machine. Some basic safety guidelines apply.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Get on a level grade. Stay away from all ledges, cliffs or promontories. The track loader will not fly, nor will it float, and sliding onto a split-level surface can tip it. Be aware of where you're going.
Step2
Don't put yourself off-balance. Using the loader requires skill. Throwing your bucket up too high with too much weight on it can affect the balance of the machine. Also, moving your bucket up when the machine is slanted can topple it. Make sure you are balanced at all times.
Step3
Don't push on anything that can push back. Large sheets of metal or other flexible materials can have "bounce" to them. If you push too hard on them, they can snap back on your machine and throw your track loader off balance.
Step4
Make sure there are no children or animals with access to your work area. It can be hard to see what's directly around you while working.
Step5
Do regular maintenance checks to make sure your track loader is running smoothly. Check the brake and fuel mechanisms and the hydraulics.
