    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Office chair
    • Screwdriver
    • 2 yards of thick fabric
    • Scissors
    • Needle and thread
    • 1 yard of elastic
      • 1

Remove the back and seat of the chair. The chair has screws on the bottom that hold the seat in place. There also may be screws on the back holding it on.

      • 2

Measure the cushions to find the correct measurements for the back and bottom of the office chair. If the back and bottom are one solid piece, decide whether to cover the entire piece or to cover the back and seat separately.

      • 3

Add 6 inches to the measurements. Cut the fabric. For example, if the seat is 2-feet wide, the total width for the cut is 2 feet, 6 inches. If you are making one piece to cover the top and the bottom, include the measurement from the connecting piece. Many one-piece chair covers look like an hourglass when cut.

      • 4

Fold the edge of the fabric over 1/2 inch. Hem around the outside of the fabric

      • 5

Cut a small hole in the fold of the hem.

      • 6

Feed the elastic through the hole and around the hem. When you finish threading the elastic all the way around the cover, cut off any excess elastic.

      • 7

Sew the elastic and the fabric edge of the holes together.

      • 8

Slide the office chair cover over the cushions. Screw the chair pieces back together.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Attach a safety pen to the end of the elastic that you feed through the fabric. It makes the threading process easier and makes it less likely that you'll lose any elastic in the fabric.
