Card tricks are easy to learn and perform, but you must continually progress with the art. Once you have mastered the basic sleight of hand for levitating cards, called the double lift, let your audience watch every move your hands make. They will see the cards levitate without seeing how you do it.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Levitating Cards or the Double Lift

Step1
Hold the deck in your left hand while you lightly hold the top edge of the deck with your right fingers. The thumb of your right hand rests on the bottom left corner.
Step2
Tilt the deck so that the cards underneath your thumb are visible. Lift the edges of the top cards with your right thumb, so that all but the 2 top cards fall back into the deck.
Step3
Press your right thumb onto the top 2 cards in a forward motion so that you can easily lift the cards from the rest of the deck with your right fingers and thumb.
Step4
Squeeze the top 2 cards so that they will bend slightly and stick together, appearing as if they were one card.
Step5
Practice until you perfect the levitation of 2 cards as 1. That's the double lift.

Levitating Card Trick

Step1
Use the double lift to turn the top 2 cards of the deck face up, showing the bottom card to the audience. They should see and believe that you have only lifted 1 card.
Step2
Place the 2 cards face down on the deck, squaring up the deck. Remove the actual top card and slide it into the middle of the deck.
Step3
Practice your sleight of hand skills to shuffle the deck, while the top card remains on top. When the moment feels right, reveal the top card, which is the card that you originally revealed to the audience.
