Postpartum depression can affect women after they give birth. Many feel ashamed about their depression and refuse to share their feelings. They can get help for this condition by following these steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Understand that it's okay to have the feelings that you do. There is no reason to be ashamed or embarrassed for having postpartum depression.
Step2
Talk to others about your feelings. You can talk to your spouse or significant other, your family or your friends. Other moms can be great to talk to as well. Let your feelings out and you can get advice on how to survive your depression.
Step3
Join a support group of other moms who are dealing with postpartum depression. You can bounce ideas off each other and share advice. Also, knowing other moms who are dealing with the same things that you are will make you feel less alone.
Step4
Accept offers of help. Friends and family members may offer to help you to take care of your children, run errands and with other household chores. Accepting their help will give you time to rest and recoup, and it will reduce the stress and burden you may be feeling.
Step5
Visit your doctor. He may be able to suggest ways to help you overcome your postpartum depression. In addition, your doctor may prescribe an antidepressant that can help you feel better.
Step6
Go into therapy. If you are having a particularly rough time, therapy with a counselor, a psychologist or a psychiatrist may be able to help.
Step7
Pamper yourself. Rest, read, or exercise. Go shopping if that is something that you enjoy. Doing something that you enjoy by yourself or with others can make you feel better. Stay active.
