Jump from a roof and you will most likely incur an injury. However, snowboard off a roof and you will have a rush that comes from snowboarding combined with the unconventional aspect of making your home a part of your equipment. The following steps will help you find this new thrill in what is already considered an extreme sport.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Step1
Examine the roof prior to attempting any jump. You will have to know the exact line you are going to travel, the point at which you will leave the roof and your intended landing zone. A steeper roof will create greater speed and require greater skill. Deep snow will provide a safer landing point, but you'll obtain less distance once you have landed.
Step2
Point your board in the direction you intend to leap off the roof so that you are in your most comfortable stance. Don't switch stances prior to the jump. You'll have little time to reverse or realign the trajectory once you've begun your run.
Step3
Push with your calves just inches from the edge of the roof. Pull your front foot up, just before you catch air. Lead your body upward and keep the nose of your snowboard angled toward the sky.
Step4
Bend your knees and prep for your landing Keep your legs loose and flexible to absorb the impact of your landing.
Step5
Dig yourself from the pile of snow in which you've landed, brush yourself off and start all over again.

Tips & Warnings

  • A more sloped landing area will help you to retain some of your speed and reduce the chances that your knees will be shoved into your face.
  • Attempt all jumps in the company of others. Should an injury occur, you will need someone to assist you or call for medical aid. This is a dangerous pastime. Make sure the snow in your landing area doesn't conceal any rocks, sharp objects or other dangers.
