If you regularly send email, you can customize the look and style of your transmissions by composing your messages in HTML format. When you compose Mozilla Thunderbird messages in HTML format, you can change the way your text appears to your recipients.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Open your Mozilla Thunderbird program.

  2. Step 2

Go to the "Tool" menu and choose "Account Settings."

  3. Step 3

Look at the left side of the account settings window where the various email accounts you set up are displayed. Click on the account you want to set to compose messages in HTML. If a list of options appears under the account name, double-click on the account.

  4. Step 4

Select "Composition and Addressing" from under your account name.

  5. Step 5

In the "Composition Settings" box at the right, find a line which says "Compose Messages in HTML Format." Click the check box next to this line to set HTML as your default email composition format in Mozilla Thunderbird.

  6. Step 6

Click the "OK" button to confirm your changes.

  7. Step 7

Start a Mozilla Thunderbird message to try out the HTML format. A bar directly about the email text field allows you to change the font, font style, font size and font color. Customize the email and send it.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your recipient's email program doesn't allow HTML email, he sees your message in plain text format instead.
  • Turn on the HTML email format in Mozilla Thunderbird to avoid the problem of the spell checker flagging website addresses as misspellings. In HTML format, Mozilla Thunderbird recognizes the website address and automatically turns it into a link.
