In 1918 Ford Motor Company produced its first Model-T with the pick-up truck package. Since then the utilitarian pick-up truck has, for some, become a symbol of style and comfort. Restoring one of these rugged machines can be an educational pastime. Here are a few steps to get you started restoring your vintage Ford truck.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Create a workspace about twice as big as the truck. You will need to access the truck from all angles so leave plenty of room on the outside for access during the restoration.

  2. Step 2

Begin the tear down by removing the vehicle's interior, make note of any damaged parts that went unnoticed before. Clean off all the rust and dirt from the vehicle's component's surfaces.

  3. Step 3

Remove, clean and store all exterior trim. Remove the exterior body panels and examine for any damages repair or replace as necessary.

  4. Step 4

Clean the engine yourself or send it to a professional detailer. It is good to get the engine and frame spotless while there is easy access to it. After the engine is cleaned examine the paint on the engines head and valve-covers touch-up or repaint as necessary.

  5. Step 5

Select your paint color, if you want the original paint color look for traces of it as over spray behind interior panels or under the hood. It is wise to consult a professional before painting a car

  6. Step 6

Replace the exterior trim and add some custom detailing if you like. Some people like to keep there classics looking like the came off of the assembly line others like to make them a reflection of themselves. It is up to you.
