Step 1
Check your path to make sure it is free of large rocks or anything that may cause you to lose your balance while carrying your kayak.
-
Step 2
Determine the center point of the kayak. Usually this is near the seat area. When you lift the kayak, place your shoulder under this point.
-
Step 3
Tilt the kayak onto its edge with the bottom facing you. Adjust the forward part of the kayak towards the path to the water.
-
Step 4
Grip the center rim firmly. Use both hands to hoist the boat onto your upper legs. Allow your legs to hold the kayak in place, bending as necessary.
-
Step 5
Reach with the hand that is closest to the rear of the kayak and grab the rim of the center point. Roll the kayak onto your shoulder. Your other hand should be near the front of the kayak. Push outwards with it to assist in the curling motion.
-
Step 6
Launch yourself slowly into position and carry the kayak down the path to the water. Reverse your actions when setting the kayak down.
