College can be very expensive. One way that students try to save money during college is by buying second hand textbooks. There are many ways you can buy second hand textbooks and here's a few ways to get the books you need without paying full price.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Visit your college bookstore. Every year, college bookstores buy back textbooks from students. College bookstores then sell these second hand textbooks to new students who need them, often at a discount over the new textbook price.

  2. Step 2

Go to local used bookstores. Many cities and towns have used bookstores and many of these bookstores sell second hand textbooks.

  3. Step 3

Ask your friends. You may have friends who have used the books that you need in their previous classes. Often, your friends would be willing to let you borrow their second hand textbooks or sell them to you for a reasonable price.

  4. Step 4

Post a flyer on a bulletin board on campus advertising your need for second hand textbooks. Be sure to list the books that you need as well as your contact information.

  5. Step 5

Check out an online message board at your college. Some colleges have online message boards for those who are selling goods, including second hand textbooks. You may find someone who is selling the books that you need. You can also post on the message board listing the books that you are looking for.

  6. Step 6

Look for second hand textbooks for sale online (see Resources below). Search these sites for the books that you are looking for and you may come up with a match.

  7. Step 7

Be on the lookout for book sales at your college's library. College libraries often have book sales and they usually sell text books. You may be able to find the textbook that you are looking for at one of these sales.
