How to Remove Athlete's Foot Fungus From a Bathroom

Athlete's foot is a fungus that can easily be transferred from one person's feet to another's through bathroom floors and linens. It is important, therefore, to keep your bathroom clean if someone in your home is infected. And once you have gotten rid of the fungus in the person, you must also get rid of it in the bathroom, or it can transfer right back onto the feet.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Remove all mats and towels from the bathroom that may have come in contact with the infection. Wash and dry these thoroughly.
Step2
Keep bathroom linens clean and dry to inhibit athlete's foot from re-inhabiting them. Replace towels regularly and wash bath mats as soon as they start to get damp.
Step3
Wash the surfaces in the bathroom using hot, soapy water. If someone in your home currently has athlete's foot then you need to do this every time they shower or use the tub.
Step4
Use a diluted bleach solution to sanitize shower and tub floors. If the floor of your bathroom is tiled then use the bleach solution on it as well.
Step5
Make sure your bathroom surfaces stay dry to inhibit athlete's foot fungus from re-infecting anyone in your home. This fungus cannot live on a dry surface, so don't give it any moisture to thrive in.

Tips & Warnings

  • Anyone in your home who currently has athlete's foot should refrain from walking barefoot in the bathroom. This will only promote the further spread of the fungus.
  • Test your bleach solution on an inconspicuous patch of the area to be cleaned before applying it all over. You want to make sure that the bleach will not damage the surfaces.
