There are advantages to being an older adult when it comes to sex. We may be a little slower, but we are more able to take the time to enjoy it. Follow these steps to be sexual as an older adult.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Realize you will not have as much sexual endurance as when you were twenty. If you are a man, you may take much longer to ejaculate and if you are a woman you may tire more easily during sex.

  2. Step 2

Use vaginal lubricants before sex since waning hormones after age fifty cause thinning of vaginal tissues and can make sex painful. Low dose estrogen creams are available for use in the vaginal area which can plump up tissues.

  3. Step 3

Find ways to be more romantic with your partner. Studies have shown that sex is more mental than physical and taking the time to arouse your partner makes sex more enjoyable.

  4. Step 4

Read books or online sites about tantric sex, sexual positions or sexual magic to add interest to your sex life. Try different methods and approaches with your partner.

  5. Step 5

Take more time to enjoy foreplay. Touching and caressing may become a more important part of sex as an older adult since our hormones aren't pushing us toward that final goal of intercourse.

  6. Step 6

Ask your doctor for advice if you are experiencing sexual problems such as dryness, lack of libido, inability to sustain erection or premature ejaculation. He may prescribe medication or refer you to a therapist if needed.

on 12/18/2007 As an older man who is sexually active do not forget that those of us with HIV/AIDS are aging and not dying. I am 52, look great and have AIDS. Safer sex is for everyone , and not just for "those at risk".
