Step 1
Take stock of your current sex life. If unsatisfied, take steps to improve it. Read books and online research about sex after fifty and talk to your doctor about sexual problems you may be having.
-
Step 2
Ask your doctor to give you a salivary test to check your hormone levels. It could be you are suffering from low libido because of low hormone levels. Ask your doctor how you can take steps to correct this.
-
Step 3
Adjust your diet. If you're a woman, you probably need a calcium and magnesium supplement along with a good quality multivitamin. Cut sugar and caffeine from your diet and eat at least one serving of dark greens, such as green lettuce, spinach or collard greens daily. Correcting your diet may balance your hormone levels naturally, eliminating the need for supplemental hormones.
-
Step 4
Realize you will not have as much sexual endurance as when you were twenty. If you are a man, you may take much longer to ejaculate and if you are a woman you may tire more easily during sex.
-
Step 5
Use vaginal lubricants before sex since waning hormones during menopause cause thinning of the vaginal tissues and can make sex painful. Low dose estrogen creams are available for use in the vaginal area which plump up the tissues.
-
Step 6
Seek advice from your doctor if you are a man experiencing problems with premature ejaculation or inability to sustain an erection. Health issues can cause or contribute to these problems. Your doctor can prescribe medication or refer you to a sex therapist if needed.
