Choose a brand of bag. Most bags note a full or half bag line. A full bag typically holds about 3 to 4 servings of vegetables.

Cut food pieces to the same size to ensure even cooking. Then place ingredients and seasonings into steamer bags. Shake the bag to mix the two.

Seal the bag completely. Place flat in microwave with the correct side noted as up and make sure that no meats overlap each other.

Use the cooking times printed on the bags or instructions based on your microwave oven power. Cooking times will also vary based on the amount of food in the bag, type of food and whether it's frozen or fresh. Basic vegetables cook for anywhere from 1 ½ minutes for half bag to 8 minutes for full bag.

Allow the bag to sit in the microwave for about 1 minute before you touch it. Gently press the bag to distribute the seasonings again. Carefully open the bag while holding it where indicated and enjoy.

Be cautious when opening the bag. The steam can be very hot.
The bag will inflate and whistle while cooking.
You can use the bags again to store and reheat the meal the next day.
Do not add water to the bag. The moisture in the food as it cooks provides enough steam to maintain moisture.
