Air guitar is gaining popularity around the world as the next big way to compete. Pitting friend against friend, contestants battle it out to see who can rock their imaginary guitar hardest. Prepare to bring the house down with this guide to success.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Pick a song. Play air guitar to a high-energy ballad, and be movement-friendly. Remember that you are making this a performance not a serious attempt at playing. Your song should be about 2 or 3 minutes in length but not longer than 4.
Step2
Create a routine. Strum along with the music, head bang, do anything that gives the song a sense of movement and creates a stirring performance. Use the entire space you are given and move your arms, hands, feet and legs. Smashing a guitar is strongly recommended and remember, never drop your air guitar.
Step3
Practice your program. Play your air guitar routine over and over again until you've got it down and then perform it for family and friends. Ask if they have any suggestions or if they saw any areas that needed work. Get comfortable performing your program in front of a crowd.
Step4
Devise a costume. You won't be taken as a serious contender unless you have a costume. Cool shades and fake tattoos are fine if you'd like to stay conservative. The point is to just go wild with it and have fun.
Step5
Make a copy of your music. If the tournament lets you play air guitar to your own music, make sure you've got it burnt to CD. After all, without music you can't perform.
