Step 1
Open Nero Recode. You can do this by clicking on its desktop icon or by finding it in its Start Menu folder.
-
Step 2
Select from the main menu either "Recode DVDs and Video to Nero Digital" or "Recode Main Movie to Nero Digital." If the DVD you're going to rip contains more than one video file, such as menus or extra features, select the first option.
-
Step 3
Look for the "Import files" button in the "My Nero Digital Disc" screen and click on it.
-
Step 4
Find the drive that contains your DVD and double-click on it. Then, select which of the video files you want to rip. If you want to rip everything, click on the first file, hold down "Shift" then click on the last. Click on "Add title."
-
Step 5
Choose the type of video file you'd like create from the "Nero Digital Category" menu on the main screen. The default format is fine. If you'd like to play your movie on something other than a computer, such as an iPod, then go ahead and select the corresponding file format.
-
Step 6
Specify how high you want the video quality to be from the "Nero Digital Profile" menu on the main screen. "Standard" quality probably provides the best balance between quality and compression, but depending on your hard drive space or portability needs you may want to change this.
-
Step 7
Select the target size you'd like Nero to try and meet when ripping your DVD. There's no wrong size to choose, but selecting an especially large or small target size might produce a file that either takes up too much space on your hard drive or whose video quality isn't what you had hoped.
-
Step 8
Click on "Next." From "Burn Settings" screen, make sure to set the "Destination" of the rip to a hard disk folder instead of a disk drive. You can also specify the directory where you want the file saved, allowing you to rip your DVD directly to an external hard drive or any other directory you use for file backup.
-
Step 9
Click "Burn."
