How to Decorate With Driftwood

One of the coolest treasures you can bring home from the beach is driftwood. Could it be a piece of fence that washed up in a storm, a petrified branch from a faraway tree, or perhaps part of a shipwreck? Once you bring it home, your driftwood discovery can become more than just a souvenir: it can become part of your decor.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Make your own tiny beach in a bowl or pot filled with sand and enjoy it year-round, inside or out. Add a piece of driftwood to other beach finds such as favorite shells and seagrass.
Step2
Look for a large piece of driftwood branch that can be an object of art. Interesting gnarls in the wood, twists and bends and bleached color can add interest to a coffee table or a stand.
Step3
Use a smaller gnarled piece as a photo holder. Just take a snapshot and bend it so that it is held securely. If it doesn't want to stay, help it out with a little hot glue.
Step4
Paint in freehand style a flat piece of driftwood with a beach scene or fun "beachy" picture, such as a crab, a fish or a boat. You can also turn your driftwood into a sign pointing toward the beach -- even if the beach is 500 miles away.
Step5
Use your driftwood finds to make a small border around a garden planting. You can paint flowers on the driftwood to create a trompe l'oeil effect.
Step6
Add small pieces of driftwood to a lovely glass container and add in favorite shells and starfish. Place it where you can see it to remind you of your beach memories and the good times you will have when you return.
