Auditions are a necessary evil which every prospective actor must face in order to get cast in anything. You can succeed in auditions if you keep your life and your art in perspective, and go into each one as an opportunity to perform for others. Every performance should be done for you, and getting a role is only icing on the cake.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Plan every move that you will make. Walk in understanding that you will make eye contact with every person in the room. Smiling the whole time, and stopping on your mark in front of the audience. Pause before you speak your name and the piece, and pause again before you begin. Rehearse all of these planned actions and it will help you avoid the jitters.
Step2
Be prepared. It isn't just for the Boy Scouts. Prepare every word, gesture, motion and nuance of your monologue. Preparation is the number one thing that can make or break any audition. Succeed in auditions by getting every line perfect weeks before you go in.
Step3
Get to the audition site early. Avoid any stressers that you have control over, and leaving early is the easiest thing you can do to help keep your stress levels down.
Step4
Have a positive attitude. You are auditioning as a person, not solely as a performer. Be positive, courteous, kind and gracious to every audience for allowing you to perform for them. Directors will remember you fondly if you stand out for being an non-diva performer and come across as genuinely nice.
Step5
Befriend the audition. It may be scary, but the audition is just another chance to put your face, name and talent out there. This means that you will have to look at auditions as an opportunity and not as a monster. If things don't go well in an audtion be kind to yourself, and learn from the mistakes you made. That will help you be a stronger performer in the future.
Step6
Take care of yourself. By sleeping regularly, eating healthy foods and exercising regularly you will feel better. Feeling good and healthy before every audition is important in order to be a success. It is also important in order to be a success in life.
