How to Choose a Seminary

Choosing a seminary is an important decision that takes a bit of research and a lot of guidance from God. Every seminary has a different approach, and it's important to find one that will fit your beliefs and give you the best education possible.

1. Speak with members of your church to see if they can guide you to a seminary or refer you to someone who has attended seminary. With speaking to others who have attended seminary, you will get a good idea of what it is like to be a student there.

2. Use the Internet to research seminaries based on the criteria that are important to you. Location, cost and theological approach is all important criteria that will quickly narrow down your choices with a little research.

3. Request information from the seminaries that you are interested in attending. Some seminaries have online request forms. You will need to contact others by telephone.

4. Study the catalogs and other information provided from the seminaries. Compare the curriculums and get a feel for what life would be like at each seminary.

5. Call the Admissions Office of the seminaries you are still interested in attending and ask any questions you may have that the catalogs and admission materials did not answer.

6. Set up an appointment to go and visit the seminaries you are still considering. While you are visiting, meet with an admissions counselor, faculty members, the financial aid department and students who currently attend the seminary. Ask if you can sit in on a few classes to get a feel for what they are like.

7. Seek the Lord's guidance by praying. Listen when God speaks and ultimately He will help you make this important decision.
