  1. Step 1

Determine who will be attending the party. Age ranges and personalities may lend themselves to certain types of music. Older generations will certainly appreciate classics from decades long ago, while teenagers and other youngsters may prefer the latest pop tunes that redo holiday oldies and invent new ones. Young children will best respond to the common, popular tunes they've been exposed to as well.

  2. Step 2

Determine your budget. Unless you already own a karaoke collection, you may have to purchase songs to accommodate this event. A budget can help you decide what songs you can afford.

Check websites and programs such as iTunes that allow you to sample selected songs before purchasing them. Search catalogs and stores to see the selections that are available in the Christmas category.

  4. Step 4

Determine what format of music you need. Maybe you're using equipment that demands a CD or DVD player, or maybe you're using an iPod or computer, making mp3 and other electronic files acceptable.

  5. Step 5
