St. Patrick's Day is a day for beer and celebration, so what better place to celebrate than your college dorm room? This day requires few decorations, as you could just throw some shamrocks on your walls and call it a day. But with a little time and imagination, you can transform your dorm room into an Irish getaway, if only for a day.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Green decorations: streamers, balloons and confetti
  • Green construction paper
  • Candy in gold wrappers
  • Bucket
  1. Step 1

Figure out your budget. If you're living in a dorm room, chances are you'd rather spend the little money you do have on beer and not on St. Patrick's Day decorations. You can party just as well with throw-away cups, as you could with giant beer steins.

  2. Step 2

Go to your local dollar store, to look for decorations. You can find St. Patrick's day staples, such as hats, streamers, confetti and, of course, shamrocks, for a much cheaper price.

  3. Step 3

Think green. Green streamers, green confetti, shamrocks, and even green balloons. There is no such thing as too much green on St. Patrick's Day.

  4. Step 4

Regress to childhood. Cut shamrocks out of green construction paper and tape them to your dorm walls.

  5. Step 5

Make a fake pot of gold. Buy a bucket and fill it with candy, wrapped in gold wrappers.

  6. Step 6

Get some green food. You can buy cookies or cupcakes, with green icing, or even make a shamrock-themed cake.

  7. Step 7

Serve your guests the most important ingredient for a successful St. Patrick's Day party. That's right, make sure to stock up on plenty of beer and green food coloring.

on 3/14/2008 In case you are still searching for the pot of gold at the end of your rainbow here are a few more tips on decorating for St. Patty's on a budget:
- In stead of buying green clothing make a party activity by asking everyone to bring an old white t-shirt or piece of clothing and set up a tie-die station with green die.
- Instead of going out and buying all the snacks and goodies ask guests to bring a snack or a beverage, put a twist on it by making a rule that the items have to be a color from the rainbow (say goodbye to brownies and hello to blue-ies)
- If you are worried about decor it is always easy to cut up craft paper into fun shapes (clovers or gold coins maybe), get some fishing line, and hot glue them to the line so they can hang from your ceiling. Or you can buy blank canvases and splatter paint them with green paint...the ideas are endless

Make sure to have fun and remem
