How to Know When It's Time to End a Friendship

The person you thought was your best friend just shared some of your deepest secrets with what seems like the whole world. You've been friends forever and can't believe this has happened. Now you're thinking that maybe after all these years it's time to end the friendship.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Be honest with yourself. Decide how much your friend's actions really hurt your feelings. Maybe you're more embarrassed by your own views than by the fact that she just blabbed them all over town. You don't want to be hasting when deciding to end the friendship.
Step2
Balance the scales. Think back to a time when you said or did something that hurt your friend. Remember how he handled the situation. Maybe his transgressions are equal to yours, and over the course of your friendship things just balanced out.
Step3
Weigh your losses. Despite your friend's recent failure to keep your secrets, there are positive qualities you see in her. She just made a mistake this time, and she's sorry for it. Most of the time you enjoy her company and know that she is on your side when things go wrong. If this is the case, you probably don't want to end the friendship.
Step4
Check the calendar. Think about the last time you interacted with your friend. If it's been a while, consider why you go so long without getting together. Adjust your thinking if there's a great distance between the two of you. But if travel isn't a concern and you haven't seen your friend in several months, you may consider ending the friendship.
