Step 1
Educate yourself on the scientific research concerning hypnotherapy to face your fear. Studies show that hypnotherapy can have amazing effects. You are in control, not the hypnotherapist. Research shows that therapists cannot control your mind or manipulate your thoughts, some people are just more easily hypnotized than others.
-
Step 2
Learn what might have caused this phobia. Often, there are emotional traumas associated with a phobia. So be aware of anything that caused the fear of hypnotherapy.
-
Step 3
Find a qualified practitioner. Because hypnotherapy is just that, a therapy, not a drug; it is not FDA approved and therefore no licensing is required. Search by word of mouth or online for someone you trust.
-
Step 4
Set an appointment with a hypnotherapist and stick to it. If you are not comfortable, they will not hypnotize you. However, it is a critical step to moving forward and building trust with the practitioners.

Step 5
Understand that it might take awhile to get over the phobia. Although some practitioners have reported results in as little as three hours, it usually takes three to five sessions to overcome the fear. It might take longer depending on the caliber of your phobia.
