Snoring is common as people age. The muscles in the throat and neck lose tone; when they're loose, snoring occurs. However, it can be stopped by using hypnosis, a powerful tool using the mind to overcome muscle relaxation.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find a qualified hypnotherapist. Hypnotherapy is not FDA approved, so most states do not require licensing. Therefore, ask for recommendations by word of mouth, or online. Make sure you go to someone you trust and feel comfortable with.

  2. Step 2

Go to the hypnotherapist with an open mind. It might take several times before your snoring stops. Your hypnotherapist will teach your subconscious to tighten the muscles in your neck and throat, so you do not snore.

  3. Step 3

Plan to spend between $50 and $100 per session. Once you know how the techniques work, ask your therapist how to duplicate their techniques at home or see if you can record their sessions. That way you can listen to your therapist prior to going to bed.

  4. Step 4

Enjoy your sleep. You will now be able to sleep without snoring. It should be a more restful, peaceful sleep.

Tips & Warnings
  • The same methods that work for snorers can also work for partners of snorers. If you can't get your partner to try hypnosis, you can use it to turn their snoring sounds into background noise. It is a great way to get a good night's sleep.
  • If your cannot stop snoring with hypnosis, you might have a more serious type of problem, like sleep apnea. These episode actually cause your breathing to stop momentarily and can lead to heart disease. If your snoring persists, see a sleep specialist.
