Step 1
Determine what you will use your GPS for, to help find the right model for you. Garmin makes different models of GPS receivers for vehicles, mobile phones, outdoor enthusiasts, fitness training, boating and aircraft.
-
Step 2
Consider how you will use your GPS. The features you need will help determine which GPS is best for you. For easy operation while in a vehicle, look for a large easy to read screen, touch screen operation, audio commands and automatic turn-by-turn routing. For outdoor use, get a GPS that is waterproof with a long battery life.
-
Step 3
Pick a Garmin receiver by considering how much you can spend. Suggested retail prices range from about $100 for a basic hand-held model such as the eTrex® to about $1,400 for advanced vehicle models such as the StreetPilot® 7500.
-
Step 4
Look up Garmin's website to find more information on their GPS products, accessories and where to buy their products. Though Garmin only sells accessories, and their PDA and PC GPS receivers from the website, they have a store locator and a listing of online retailers where you can buy their other GPS receivers.
-
Step 5
Shop around. There are promotions and rebates available through Garmin's website. Keep an eye out at retailers for deals on discontinued models and refurbished products. Scout out used Garmin GPS receivers on websites.
