Step 1
Measure the space that is available in the baby nursery. This will help with the decision on what type of baby changing table to get. Leave walking room around the baby changing table area as well.
-
Step 2
Decide on features you want in the baby changing table. A simple changing table will have a place for the baby and one or two shelves below it to hold diapers, baby wipes and other baby changing necessities. Some baby changing tables have a built-in dresser.
-
Step 3
Determine a budget. Since most baby changing tables with lots of extra features cost more, deciding what features are necessary can help determine this budget.
-
Step 4
Look through a local newspaper for garage sales. Many have baby items for sale. But whatever you do, stay away from used mattresses or changing table mats/pads--they're usually dirty and just not safe.
-
Step 5
Visit consignment shops. Many consignment shops have baby items including furniture items such as cribs and baby changing tables. Find a local consignment shop using the yellow pages or ask around to knowledgeable friends and family members.
-
Step 6
Register your new baby on a baby registry at the store of your choice. Be sure to include a changing table on your wish list. Most stores that sell baby items have a baby registry for the parents to let friends and family know what they need.

Step 7
Shop at a specialty store.
