When playing wheelchair basketball, the main object of the game is to score. If you can learn how to become a good scorer, you will be a valuable player on your wheelchair basketball team.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Practice shooting the basketball on your own time. A good scorer can't master his craft during live play. Find someone who will rebound the ball for you, and go to a basketball court. Once at the court, practice shots from all different angles. Also shoot different types of shots including layups, bank shots and three-pointers. Work on shooting with either hand, which can give you a major advantage during actual live play.

  2. Step 2

Establish good position during games. If you can establish good position on the offensive end, your teammates can pass the ball to you in areas of the court that you score from. To establish solid position, concentrate on transitioning from one side of the court to the other as fast as possible. Once on the offensive end of the court, go to a place on the court where you prefer to get the ball, which is generally an area close to the basket.

  3. Step 3

Exercise patience once you get the ball. A lot of wheelchair basketball players rush their shots once they get the ball. Instead, take your time and wait for a quality shot to present itself. If you find that you don't have a clear shot, pass the ball to a teammate. A big part of being a good scorer is learning to pass up shots that aren't high percentage shots. If your teammates see your willingness to pass the ball, they won't hesitate to pass it back to you as often as possible.

  4. Step 4

Stay positive while on the court. Every good scorer goes into a shooting slump. Don't let the slump change the way that you play the game. Learn how to keep your composure.
