1
Remain aware of your surroundings and possible exit strategies. It is important that you try to see a fight coming before it happens, so that you have time to prepare yourself. Your awareness and preparedness can save you from freezing up or being caught off guard.
-
2
Control the distance between you and your attacker, if you cannot avoid the fight. Raise your hands with your palms out and lean your body away from your attacker to protect your head and face, while you establish your fight position.

3
Keep your mind on the objective, and don't let your rage control you. You want to stop the other person, not hurt them. Winning a fist fight does not mean leaving your opponent a bloody mess; it means ending the fight as quickly as possible with as little damage inflected on both parties as possible.
-
4
Strike first whenever possible, aiming for his chin or jaw. A powerful first punch will at best knock your opponent out, and at worst, will cause them to reconsider their actions. Nine out of ten times your attacker will be drunk or well on his way, so a forceful strike to the face can quickly drop him to his knees.
-
5
Realize when you have won, which doesn't mean your opponent is blacked-out on the floor. It simply means you have taken control of the situation and have an opportunity to leave.

Tips & Warnings
Fighting is bad, even if it's just with your fists. Remember that whether you win or lose, fighting may earn you a night or two in jail, a trip to the hospital, or worse.
