Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Look for local, national and worldwide writer's conferences. Search databases online. Writer's magazines are also a good place to get writer's conference locations. Search Shaw Guides online for conferences. This website has listings for writer's conferences all over the world.
Step2
Follow the directions for registering after you select a writer's conference to attend. Some writer's conferences ask that registration be within a certain time prior to the date of the conference. Other conferences don't require pre-registration. Many of the writer's conferences that require fee to participate also require early payment. You'll have to pre-pay for most conferences.
Step3
Read all fine print. Make sure to send all required documents such as manuscripts and/or writing samples according to regulations for the writer's conference. When in doubt, call or write to the conference contact person.
Step4
Prepare for the trip to the writer's conference if you plan to attend one that is out of your locality. Book flights, rental cars and hotels as soon as you register for the conference. Remember to research the climate in the area of the conference. Prepare by packing the appropriate clothing.
Step5
Make sure you have all necessary supplies. Some writer's conferences require a manuscript. Bring several copies of your writing samples to the conference. Pens, pencils, laptop computer and all other necessary writing utensils are necessary for a writer's conference.
Step6
Take advantage of the time. Talk to other writers, make new friends, share ideas and exchange business cards. You never know when you'll make a new contact that will advance your career, or you theirs.
