Things You'll Need:
-
Step 1
Cut the bottom out of the bowls. Leave a small ring on the bottom so the speaker fits snugly in the hole. Make a pattern of the cut circle. Trace around the edge of the cut circle on a piece of paper. Cut out the pattern. This helps the circles you cut in the following steps be the same size.
-
Step 2
Measure and cut the holes around the bowl. Each circle needs to be 12 degrees from the other circles and at least 1 inch from the rim of the bowl. Use the pattern to mark the circles before cutting them out of the bowl Each bowl must have four holes in it.
-
Step 3
Cut the plastic ridges off the bottom of the terminals. The ridges keep them from being flush with the bowl. Cut small holes in the bowls in between the speakers to fit the terminals. The front piece of the terminal needs to stick out the front of the bowl. The terminals allow you to run wires from the stereo or sound system to the speaker.
-
Step 4
Make 6- to 8-inch pieces of speaker wire for each speaker. Strip 1/2 of the plastic off each end of the wire.
-
Step 5
Solder the wire to the speaker The speaker has instructions about how to connect the wires. Follow the instructions carefully.
-
Step 6
Place weather striping around the back edge of the spherical speakers. This cushions any vibration.
-
Step 7
Put the speakers and terminals in the holes on the bowl. Attach the speakers with the machine nuts and bolts. Attach the terminals with the smaller nuts and bolts.
-
Step 8
Solder the wire to the terminals. The red or positive wire hooks to the red piece of the terminal. When the solder has cooled, place the shrink tubing over the wire and shrink it with heat from a blow dryer.
-
Step 9
Super glue the rims of the bowls together to make the spherical array.
-
Step 10
Hang the speaker array with a chain or rope with the loop at the top.
