How to Start a Bridge Club
Bridge is a card game which involves both luck and skill. Bridge may be popular because it is complicated which helps stimulate your brain. It also provides social opportunities and can be played over the course of a lifetime. Bridge is played in clubs, online and tournaments. There are several types of Bridge, each with its own rules.

Learn how to play Bridge. Bridge is one of the more complicated card games. It has a language all of its own. You will need to learn hand valuation and bidding. Because of its popularity there are many resources available to learn to play. Some community centers offer lessons, online sites and books have instructional information.

Decide on the type of Bridge to be played. Along with Contact Bridge there are other types including, Duplicate Bridge and Chicago Bridge. Clubs may want to develop a schedule where several different types of Bridge are played on different nights.

Find a location. Some community centers and churches may allow you to use space for free or at a low cost. Call local recreation centers to determine costs of renting out space on a regular basis.

Contact the American Contract Bridge League. This organization has been around since 1937. They offer information on how to play Bridge and help for Bridge clubs starting out. They sanction clubs and can provide a link to your club on their website which will help get members.

Set rules and fees. Decide if there will be membership fees and how much. Fees may help pay for renting a space if needed and other expenses that arise with running a club. Determine what you will make the card fee to play. Select times and days you will hold games.

Recruit players. Print up flyers to deliver to community centers, stores and senior centers. Call your local Chamber of Commerce and ask if they will put your clubs information in any newcomer's guides. Contact local television stations which may run a community events calendar to advertise. Set up a website to provide information to potential members.

Consider electing officers to help your Bridge club run more smoothly. Along with a president who will run the club you may need a treasurer if there will be any fees associated with joining. A secretary is also helpful to keep track of meetings, game results and member information.
