How to Support Learn and Serve America

Learn and Serve America supports service-learning for students from kindergarten to the university level. The idea is that the more young people can become involved in their communities, the stronger they'll become as both students and citizens. Supporting Learn and Serve America goes beyond just supporting the organization itself.

1. Support service learning, and seek ways to incorporate it into your local academic institutions. Service learning integrates classroom knowledge with community service, allowing students to see the relevance of their learning while helping others.
2. Pursue a grant through Learn and Serve America to develop service learning programs in your community. The organization provides non-competitive school-based grants through local state education agencies, so contact your agency for information. 3. Educate others about the benefits of service learning to help this form of learning become as accepted as traditional classroom instruction. Not only does it help students put their learning into action, it also creates good citizens with strong senses of civic engagement.
4. Encourage students you know to participate in service learning, helping them understand how it can benefit both the community and their own education.
