How to Install a Batting Cage Kit
A batting cage is a workout area that can hone the skills of a potential all-star by allowing him to work with a pitching machine or another player without worrying that a solid line drive might kill the dog, break a window, or bean the neighbor working on her flower bed. It can be set up in most back yards--or even in a basement.

1
Pick the area where you plan to set up the batting cage. Measure its dimensions. You want a flat space with a minimum length of 40 feet.
-
2
Choose a cable system because it is the most cost effective system. Choose a system that does not require concrete settings for the suspension frames because it allows portability of your batting cage.
-
-
3
Decide whether you need a three or four support system. Order the hardware needed to attach the upright and cross members of the supports as well as the galvanized steel supports and suspension cables.
-
4
Decide if you want to use polyethylene or nylon netting for the cage. Nylon has a longer use life but costs about 20% more. Order the appropriate amount of netting, depending upon whether you need a three or four support system.
-
5
Lay out the suspension tubing on the ground. Attach cross members to the upright tubing with the appropriate hardware. Place the PVC sleeving that comes with a hardware kit into the ground. Raise the suspension unit and place the uprights into the PVC sleeves.
-
6
Attach the suspension cables to the frame with the appropriate hardware. Attach the netting to the suspension cables and the frames. Secure the netting to the ground.
-
7
Add whatever accessories such as an upright pitcher protection screen, batter area or pitching machine that you want but a pitcher protection screen is probably a necessity.

Tips & Warnings
The most convenient way to order hardware and supports is in the form of "frame kits" and "hardware kits" because all the component members are included.
