How to Visit the Mexican Riviera

The west coast of Mexico, from Acapulco to Tijuana including the Baja Peninsula, is often called the "Mexican Riviera." This temperate, scenic area is dotted with small beach resorts and fishing villages, many of which have developed into world-famous pleasure resorts. This section of Pacific coast is also a favorite cruise stop and was immortalized on the 1970's television show "The Love Boat."

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Visit Cabo San Lucas. Located on the tip of the Baja Peninsula, Cabo was little more than a remote sportsfishing locale until the mid-1970's when the Trans-Baja Highway was completed. Today, the town still retains its small-town atmosphere, while offering some of the best fishing, golf and nightlife in Mexico.
Step2
Explore Mazatlan. Mazatlan, on Mexico's central Pacific coast, is a thriving metropolis with over 300,000 residents as well as a beach resort. The town offers interesting architecture, diverse shopping and is home to one of the most popular winter carnivals outside of New Orleans.
Step3
Stop at Puerto Vallarta. Once a quiet fishing village, Puerto Vallarta was thrust into the world spotlight during the 1960's when Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton descended on the community while filming "The Night of the Iguana." The couple fell in love with the town and bought property. The world soon followed their example. Today, beachfront resorts line the coast of this town. Puerto Vallarta also offers excellent shopping and restaurants, all under the sun.
