Whether you're going for a glam look or a professional made-up appearance, it never hurts to have your eyelashes looking just right. You don't have to spend a lot of money on mascaras that claim to lengthen short lashes or pump up eyelash volume--you can get great eyelashes from any mascara with the right application techniques. Read on to learn how to lengthen eyelashes with any mascara.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mascara
  • Eyelash curler (optional)
  • Eyelash comb
  1. Step 1

Apply the first layer of mascara to the top lashes from above. Do this by closing the eye and then opening it while brushing downwards, or by leaving the eye closed as you apply.

  2. Step 2

Put on the second layer of mascara to the upper eyelashes from underneath. Open the eye, place the mascara brush at the base of the lashes and close the eye while brushing out.

  3. Step 3

Spread a third layer, starting at the inside of the eye near the nose and brushing outward toward your ear. You can do this with the eye open or closed.

  4. Step 4

Finish the upper eyelashes by doing a final stroke from the outside of the eyelashes near the ear and brushing inward toward the nose.

  5. Step 5

Repeat the above steps with the bottom lashes, starting by applying mascara to the underside, then the top side, then from the inside and from the outside.

  6. Step 6

Lengthen eyelashes more by applying a second coat of mascara immediately all around the eye.

Tips & Warnings
  • Apply a base layer of clear mascara or primer before applying mascara, if you don't want to apply multiple layers of mascara. Apply the primer from all directions just as you would the mascara, then apply the mascara by following the above steps.
  • Curl your eyelashes for a more noticeable affect. This won't make the lashes look longer, but it can make them more noticeable.
  • Don't wait for the mascara to dry because it can clump up then. While it's still wet, use an eyelash comb to separate the lashes.
