How to Get on the Radio

I Did This Rate: (0 Ratings)

Many people want to be heard and have their 15 minutes of fame. The radio is one way to express an opinion, advertise a product or become a DJ. Get on the radio and keep it simple and concise. The best-case scenario is accomplishing your goal of being on the radio. Read on to learn how to get on the radio.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Decide what venue--talk radio, rock station, country station, oldies station or rap station. Know the target audience for each venue. Pick the time of day best to call. To find these, try searching for the radio station's website.
Step2
Look in the local phone book for radio stations. Write down the phone number for one or more stations to contact. List the contacts for future reference and follow up information. Use Switchboard and Yellow Pages' home pages in addition to the phone book. See the resources below.
Step3
Call in to the station and compliment the DJ. Saying something witty, insightful or funny is effective as well. Talk radio usually screens calls and puts on an interesting problem, so select a problem that is radio-worthy.
Step4
Listen for the call to be featured on the radio. If it is not, repeat Steps 3 and 4 again.

Tips & Warnings

  • If it is a job you are seeking, visit their website or call their Human Resources Department.
  • Find the book "How To Be a DJ." It's a great resource and provides instructions for beginning DJs. The book is available in paper and hardback at most retailers.

on 7/23/2008 You can also buy 1 minute slots on airspun.com at any time you want. I think the cheapest is $49. Good for musicians!
