Whether you're a history buff, antique enthusiast or just enjoy political irony, collecting propaganda posters, films and other memorabilia can be a fun hobby. Each item in your propaganda collection will have political significance and a great story behind it. It's easy to get a collection started, too. You just need to decide what kinds of propaganda fascinate you the most. Read on to learn how to collect propaganda.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Learn about propaganda, if you don't already have a solid knowledge-base. While most people associate this slick form of political manipulation with the Soviet Union and the United States during World War II, nearly every political campaign--from a small town mayoral election to the presidency--uses propaganda. Advertising is also a form of propaganda worth collecting.
Step2
Decide what kind of propaganda to collect. Attempt to acquire as many pieces as you can from a particular campaign, such as World War II propaganda posters and film clips. Or focus on a specific type of propaganda you find interesting, such as making the opponent look like a villain. Of course, you have the option to simply collect whatever propaganda appeals to you, from a variety of campaigns and historical movements.
Step3
Visit flea markets, antique shops and auctions to pursue propaganda materials in person. Buy what you like and ask the vendors if they have a source for additional similar material.
Step4
Buy propaganda online by searching eBay.com and online antique shops. Make sure you buy from reputable sellers only. You can take items purchased online to a local antique dealer to verify authenticity.
Step5
Preserve your collection carefully. Propaganda posters can be stored in archive-quality paper or in plastic protective covers. Buttons, bumper stickers and pennants can be displayed or kept in a keepsake box or jewelry box. Film should never be put through an X-ray machine, so if you travel with propaganda film, pack it rather than carrying it on board.
