Things You'll Need:
- Topical pain relieving cream
- Anti-inflammatory drugs
- Sun block
-
Step 1
Find a doctor or aesthetician experienced in beard removal. Regulations for practitioner credentials vary by state. You can ask your dermatologist or physician for a referral. Ask the hair removal practitioner to show you before and after photos of other clients.
-
Step 2
Schedule an initial consultation. The hair removal practitioner must evaluate your beard to see if laser hair removal is an option for you.
-
Step 3
Make your appointment well in advance of any special engagements. If you have an event planned and want to show off your newly smooth skin, get the laser treatment at least 3 weeks beforehand to allow the swelling and redness to subside.
-
Step 4
Shave closely with and against the direction of hair growth before the appointment. Heat from the laser heats up the hair during treatment, so removing as much hair as possible reduces the possibility of burning your skin.
-
Step 5
Prepare for discomfort since there are many hair follicles on the face compared to other areas of the body. Facial skin is more thin and delicate than other body parts. Ask the hair removal practitioner if you can use topical pain relieving cream or anti-inflammatory drugs.
-
Step 6
Protect your face from the sun after your treatment. You must wear a sun block with an SPF of at least 30 every day for 3 months following the procedure.
-
Step 7
Consider electrolysis for any stubborn or light hairs the laser misses. You must return for repeat laser treatments for hair missed between growth cycles, but you must remove blond or gray hairs by shaving, tweezing or removing through electrolysis.
