Step 1
Take a scenic ride on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. Choose from different trips ranging from a shorter tour or longer rides that include visits to historic places or ranger led tours. You can also ride the train in conjunction with the Towpath Trail, a hiking and biking trail.
-
Step 2
Learn more about the history of the Ohio and Erie Canal at the Canal Visitor's Center. You can see lock demonstrations by staff in period costumes and see exhibits about human history in the valley. You can also see remnants of the canal along the Towpath Trail.
-
Step 3
Hike on one of the park's over 100 miles of trails. The Towpath Trail offers a flat, easy trail that is accessible for most individuals. Part of Ohio's Buckeye Trail also crosses the park and offers more challenging terrain. Grab a trail guide and hike through forests, old fields and over streams.
-
Step 4
Attend a concert from the Cuyahoga Valley Heritage Series Concerts. These concerts focus on the area's musical and cultural history. You'll be transported back in time, with a modern twist, with these concerts.
-
Step 5
Watch for wildlife in the park. Although the park is close to urban areas, the park has abundant wildlife including coyotes, deer and many different species of birds. Most visitors see wildlife during their time in the park.
-
Step 6
Bird watch for over nineteen threatened or endangered species. The National Audubon Society designated the park as an important bird area, as over 200 different species of birds, including rare species, can be seen throughout the year. The National Park Service has a guide which lists the best places within the park to sight different species.
