If thongs aren't your thing and briefs remind you too much of your grandmother's bloomers, bikini panties are a good, happy medium. They're sexy while still providing plenty of coverage. Bikini panties come in many different styles, fabrics and colors. To buy the perfect bikini for you, take style, comfort and price into consideration.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide what you want to spend. You can get bargain packs of bikini panties at discount stores for less than what you'd spend on a fast food meal--or spend more than $100 on one pair at a couture lingerie boutique. If your price point is somewhere in the middle, stick with department stores and shops like Victoria's Secret and Frederick's of Hollywood.

  2. Step 2

Think about the purpose of your bikini panties. If they are everyday panties to wear from morning till night, comfort will be the most important factor. If you're wearing them underneath special occasion clothes, slimming devices like a control top tummy panel might be important. For a romantic rendezvous, how you look in the panties will be more important than how they feel.

  3. Step 3

Choose a fabric. Soft, T-shirt quality cotton is always comfortable, but stretch lace, Lycra and Spandex might provide better support. In the summertime or in hot climates, a nylon blend or mesh offers the most breathability.

  4. Step 4

Think about the clothes you'll be wearing the bikini panties underneath. If they are snug enough to show panty lines, buy bikini panties that won't show through. Flesh-colored panties with subtle seaming are usually safe underneath tight pants. For dresses and skirts that cause static cling, cotton panties might not be the best choice.

  5. Step 5

Buy a few different kinds of bikini panties at your favorite store. Wear each one and decide which is the most comfortable and practical--then go out and buy 6 to 13 more pairs. It's good to have at least a week's worth of panties in your drawers in case you get behind with the laundry.
